BOUNDARYMIND is an evening-length electroacoustic sound piece and aggregating installation that explores and transgresses the geographical, cultural, psychological, and musical boundaries that impact how we share our past, present, and future selves with others.

Developed collaboratively over the course of eight years by Linda Jankowska and Katherine Young, the project also presents video art by Kera Mackenzie and a performative sculpture by Molly Roth Scranton. Boundarymind’s production partners are Experimental Sound Studio, 6018 North, RomanSusan and P.O.Box Collective.

Originally scheduled to premiere in 2020, this evolving work has been a long time coming. We hope you'll join us.

IN THE STUDIO
The Bridge in residence at ESS

This week the ESS studios have been filled with (sometimes raucous) conversation, laughter, and music of The Bridge 2.7 as they explore the Creative Audio Archives and record new work inspired by their discoveries.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with The Bridge, they are a transatlantic network for jazz and creative music, connecting musicians from France and Chicago. In normal times, they descend on the city of Chicago twice a year for a whirlwind of near-nightly shows and other engagements throughout the city. For the past several years at ESS they have taken time for mini-residencies, spending one full day listening to work from the archive, and another full day recording work inspired by their discoveries. That they are back in town in full force this spring feels right and auspicious.

The Bridge 2.7 (pictured here) includes: Jaimie Branch (trumpet, electronics); Isaiah Collier (tenor & soprano saxophones); Rafaelle Rinaudo (harp, electronics); Gilles Coronado (electric guitar); Tim Daisy (drums)
