Former Alba Artist-in-Residence Friedrich Andreoni receives the DucatoArt Prize Academy Award 2023 with his installation ‘I Was So Wrong’ realized in Chicago during 2021. The work is now part of the Michele Cristella art collection in Piacenza, Italy.

Andreoni’s work ‘I Was So Wrong’ uses the spectrogram image - scientific sound representation - of the artist's voice recording repeating "I was so wrong," and flags, a symbol of a condition of pride, wealth and power. In a daring juxtaposition, the installation questions one of the hardest things for human beings to do: admit they were "wrong." The work becomes an invitation to introspection and sincerity, prompting the viewer to reflect on the concept of humility and the importance of accepting one's fallibility.

Fosbury Architecture, which curated the Italian Pavilion at the 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale and was part of the 2017 Chicago Architecture Biennial conceived the exhibition display of the DP23 edition as a harmonious and continuous journey along which visitors can further explore the connection with the personal research of each of the ten finalist artists. The show featured works by Tomaso De Luca, Adji Dieye, Xavier Robles de Medina, Wisrah Villefort, Liao Wen, Friedrich Andreoni, Luca Campestri, Gala Hernàndez López, Flavia Spasari and Alla Zhyvotova.

The DucatoPrize focuses on artists, both national and international, capable of eliciting a critical reflection on the most significant and contextual aspects of the present with their research. It has been established by Michele Cristella in 2019 and is directed and curated by Giacomo Pigliapoco.
