Job description:

The Marketing and Public Relations Director will be charged with creating and implementing an innovative and sustainable plan that integrates marketing, branding, public relations, and design. This involves expanding the public face of the organization and its programs, which include public presentation, artist career development, and preservation. It also includes increasing earned income by expanding the markets for the organization’s current offerings in services for artists and organizations, developing and marketing new earned income streams (such as space rental to artists and groups, specialized production services, new professional services for artists, etc.), and effectively communicating these to potential clients. Thirdly, it includes continuing and promoting ESS’s presence via internet and social media resources.

The candidate should have a proven dedication to contemporary culture and exploratory art forms, as well as an eye for design. The position requires a high degree of self-initiative, assertiveness, flexibility, attention to detail, excellent communication and social skills, an interest in working as part of a team, and the ability to work quickly, creatively, and decisively with limited resources. The ideal candidate will have experience working collaboratively in similar roles in marketing and/or public relations in nonprofit organizations, and a particular familiarity with small nonprofits and the sonic arts.

Work with the staff and board to create an integrated marketing, branding, and public relations plan and to effectively and quickly implement that plan.

Develop a cohesive design strategy to perpetuate the organization’s brand as a whole as well as its particular services and programs.

Find ways to market the organization’s human, technological, acoustic, and aesthetic resources in order to expand earned income streams, including studio use, tutorials, online sales, rentals for private events, etc.

Develop and communicate the organization’s public face using a full range of online, media, and print resources.

Maintain and continue to develop the ESS website as a relevant online outlet for new and existing programs.
