Description

With the support of soundpocket and Experimental Sound Studio, Alice Cheng concludes her one-month artist residency in Chicago with a live online sharing. Serving as an initial grounding for her broader research into the sonic ecology of urban landscapes, Drifting Through the Resonance takes shape as an audio archive and a written research log documenting the city’s acoustic environments.

Alice’s practice has been guided by an intentional, yet unmapped drifting through various Chicago neighbourhoods. This process became an exercise in navigating urban textures and finding her attention at times pulled toward the accidental details of the periphery rather than her intended destinations.

The resulting archive grew out of sourcing communal voices and field recordings, becoming a journey of comprehension, a slow reading of the city. By embracing what each excursion offered, the captured fragments are reframed not as planned documentation, but as quiet, unexpected convergences.

In this online sharing, Alice will open her log and archive, sharing the fragments, the quiet walks, and the observations gathered during her drift.

About Alice Cheng

Alice Cheng Chau-yung (b. 2001, Hong Kong)

Her artistic practice encompasses sound installation and sculpture, exploring the dynamic relations between space, materials, and sound to activate spatial and environmental dialogues. By tracing the intangible transformations of space and attuning to the threshold between transient presence and underlying resonance, her work unfolds sensory encounters within sites of inhabitation.

This annual artist residency is a collaboration with soundpocket in Hong Kong.
