Flutist, improviser and composer Anne Laberge and vocalist/composer Amanda Schoofs mark their debut on the Option stage. Please join us for an evening of solo and duo music by these two of giants in the field of sound.

Composer, improviser, vocalist, and visual artist Amanda Schoofs creates visceral works that emphasize timbre and intimacy while exposing the raw, vulnerable, and violent nature of the human spirit. Her work extends from the experimental music tradition and exists in the space between diverse artistic practices: music composition, vocal performance, painting and printmaking, poetry, performance art, and authentic movement/ dance.
Anne La Berge's passion for the extremes in both composed and improvised music has led her to the fringes of storytelling and sound art as her sources of musical inspiration. Her performances bring together a ferocious virtuosity, a penchant for microtonal textures and melodies, and an array of extended flute effects, all combined with interactive electronic processing. She is a founding artist of Splendor Amsterdam, a collective of musicians, who have transformed a bathhouse in Amsterdam into a cultural mecca. She can be heard on the Largo, Artifact, Etcetera, Hat Art, Frog Peak, Einstein, X-OR, Unsounds, Canal Street, Rambo, esc.rec., Intackt, Data and verz labels. She is the Managing Director of the Volsap Foundation that produces innovative music projects and concert tours.
Amanda Schoofs creates music that emphasizes presence and spontaneity while exposing the raw and vulnerable qualities of sound and the performing self. Infuse with melody and full spectrum timbre her acoustic and electroacoutic compositions are stunning in their visceral coherence. Her artistic practice extends through the American experimental music tradition and exists in the space between academic new music, hybrid arts, and DIY punk and noise practices.
Amanda’s music is being presented throughout America, Canada, Europe, and Australia. In 2015 her composition Intimate Addictions was curated by Pulitzer Prize winner Du Yun on the world renowned MATA Festival at The Kitchen in NYC. Her vocal performance of Intimate Addictions was hailed by the Wall Street Journal as “fantastic theater” and described as “courageously elevating the evening to an entirely different level of sophistication,”by I Care If You Listen.
