The Bridge is an exchange program that was founded to encourage all aspects of musical collaboration, including touring, recording and documenting jazz and improvisational music across cultures. A network of sixty artists from the U.S. and France have combined forces to promote cross-cultural musical exploration through performances, educational workshops, public discussions & debates and master classes.

In town for the fourth Bridge 'adventure' (the second in Chicago), French musicians Julien Desprez (guitar) and Matthieu Sourisseau (bass) will be joined by Chicagoans Rob Mazurek (cornet), Mwata Bowden (reeds), and Matt Lux (bass) for an evening of improvised music. Mazurek first conceived of the group: a percussionless band populated by a plurality of string instruments—among them two bass players who don't play the double bass.
