Trío Lesión
Lesión is a Colombian trio by clarinetist María Valencia, double bassist Santiago Botero and violinist Ana Ruiz Valencia. Focused on free improvisation, Trio Lesion takes its name from a long history of frustrated encounters, usually due to some injury (lesión) of any of its members, Covid-19, unexpected travels or city changes. For this concert, Trio Lesión performs an acoustic concert at the housing project Centro Antonio Nariño, an iconic representation of Modern architecture in Bogota built in 1952 that integrates interior and exterior spaces, public and private life. In a post-pandemic world, these housing models are gaining interest again by local people as they represent an architecture that counteracts neoliberal and airbnb-like housing projects.

Ana Ruiz Valencia is a Colombian curator and musician currently based in Medellin, Colombia. She is interested in contemporary and experimental artistic practices, particularly those related to aural culture, and philosophy+politics of sound. Her artistic and research work has appeared recently on Radical Sounds Latin America, Tsonami Sound Art Festival, IN/OUT Festival - ProHelvetia, among others. In 2018, she resided briefly in Montreal to undertake a mentorship with Malcolm Goldstein. Some curatorial projects related to sound art are Espacios de Interferencia and Todo es radio (45 Colombian National Arts Triennial, 2019), and Auditum Festival in Medellin, Colombia (2021-2022). Committed to the creation and development of new music, Ana co-founded Doble Cero Carnicero, an ensemble devoted to sonic creation/experimentation, and BruitCollage, a label focused on improvised music and sound art.
María Valencia
Saxophonist and clarinetist from Bogota graduated in musical studies from Universidad Javeriana. M.A in Fine and Electronics Arts from Universidad de Los Andes, and active member since 2004 of the collective La Distritofonica. Artist in residence at Périscope Lyon (2020) y en Banff Centre (2022). Her work has been related to record production, live performing, and artistic creation in groups such as El Sexteto la Constelación de Colombia, Asdrúbal, Palanca, MULA, Meridian Brothers, La Resbalosa, Mirlitorrinco, Vien-Tox, Tortuga Alada, and Curruncho. She has developed her exploration as a composer and improviser, has performed in national and international festivals, and received several awards from the Colombian Ministry of Culture, IDARTES, UNESCO, and Universidad del Rosario.
Santiago Botero
Double(bassist), improviser, composer, and pedagogue, Santiago Botero studied Jazz and Classic Double Bass at the Amsterdam Conservatory (Netherlands) and a Master's Degree in Free Improvisation Studies at the Arnhem Conservatory (Netherlands). He has collaborated with musicians and artists such as Maria Valencia, Juanita Delgado, Enrique Mendoza, Ricardo Gallo, Ricardo Arias, choreographer Katie Duck, Peter Brötzmann, Tony Malaby, the accordionist Carmelo Torres, Kym Myhr, Daevid Allen (De Gong), Marshall Allen (Sun Ra Arkestra), Dror Feiler, Axel Dorner, Nicola Hein, Urian Sarmiento, Ingebrigt Häker Flatten, Onno Govaert and Bram Stadhouders. He is currently a double bass and jazz ensemble professor at the Faculty of Arts of the Pontifical Javeriana University (Bogotá, Colombia).
