Concert Series & Regular Presentations

William Parker discusses his work with Ken Vandermark at OPTION

OPTION is a weekly music series on Monday nights at ESS. Its programming explores contemporary perspectives on improvisation and composition in a 'salon' format. Organized by Chicago musicians Andrew Clinkman, Tim Daisy, and Ken Vandermark, the schedule of concerts and talks represents an insider's point of view toward what is currently most exciting in the fields of music and the arts.

Alejandro Acierto performs at OSCILLATIONS 2016

OSCILLATIONS presents concerts by artists selected from submissions received in response to an open call for proposals. The resulting line-ups are remarkably diverse, featuring emerging and established artists working in contemporary chamber music, improvisation, broadcast, installation, electronic music, and more.

Florasonic is a unique program that commissions composers and artists to make new site-specific music and audio art installations for the Fern Room of the Lincoln Park Conservatory, a turn-of-the-century greenhouse. Curated by the staff of ESS, Florasonic presents each project for three to five months, visited by an estimated 500 to 1,000 people each day.

Audible Gallery

Audible Gallery is a public space and gallery for exhibitions, meetings, workshops, performances, and artists projects. A simple 400-square-foot space at street level, the space is not only used for ESS programs and events, but is also open to proposals by artists, organizations, and community members. The work exhibited in the space highlights intersections between sound practice and work in other disciplines. Exhibitions often feature accompanying performances and events related to the work.
