NYC-based artist Madeline Stepien performs a solo set that explores sound as a tool for perceptual and emotional manipulation.

This performance and interview are presented in the ESS garden, and will premiere online on ESS’s YouTube.

This event is free and open to the public. Walk-ins welcome; reservations recommended.

The OPTION series is curated by Andrew Clinkman, Lily Finnegan, and Dorothy Carlos.

About Madeline Stepien

Madeline Stepien is a sound artist based in New York City. Her work explores sound as a tool of perceptual and emotional manipulation. Operating under the alias “pent” from 2020-2024, she developed her practice through a plethora of live performances and recorded material that range from live interventions in club environments to fixed media installations. She has performed at Moma PS1, Roulette Intermedium, Pioneer Works, Sculpture Center, Emily Harvey Foundation, Knockdown Center, Sustain Release Festival, Dripping Festival, and Public Records.

About OPTION

OPTION is an ongoing music salon curated by Chicago musicians Andrew Clinkman, Lily Finnegan, and Dorothy Carlos and presented by Experimental Sound Studio. Its programming explores contemporary perspectives on improvisation and composition in a ‘salon’ format, enabling local, national, and international artists to publicly discuss their practice and ideas as well as perform.
