Hear the hidden this summer

Join us for two special events at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, where the soundtracks of nature and the city intersect.

Bringing together 14 compositions from an international roster of sound artists, this auditory exhibition invites you to actively listen to the nature rooted in the urban, and consider how beautifully reciprocal and entwined the human and non-human can be.

This exhibition is curated by Giovanni Aloi and Chris Hunter of the AntennaeProject, a signature project of which is Antennae, the Journal in Nature and Culture, a leading international peer-reviewed publication on the subject of nature in contemporary art. This is the sixth installation produced and presented by Experimental Sound Studio utilizing the globally unique speaker system at Jay Pritzker Pavilion.

Commissioned artists include

Charlie Manion
Beth Bradfish
Steve Reidell and Stacey Marquardt
Cole Swanson and Pedro Casas
Bob Drake
Aloi
Harrison Gill
Felix Bell and Nuno Lobo
Evgenia Emets and Mileece

Inspired by perspectives and experiences drawn from India, the UK, Moscow, Mexico, Canada, East Asia, the United States, and Chicago's own neighborhoods, this exhibition's artists explore how our cities pulse with a highly distinctive sound habitat — one that's accessible to everyone, and worthy of our attention.

urban+nature sonic pavilion” is part of the Millennium Park Residency Program, an initiative of the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events with funding from the Pritzker Foundation and the Millennium Park Foundation.

This year marks the milestone 20th anniversary of Millennium Park — the #1 attraction in the Midwest and among the top 10 most-visited sites in the United States. All season long, the Park will be bustling with free cultural events including a special Millennium Park 20th Anniversary Celebration (July 18–21). Scheduled to take place almost exactly 20 years since the Park’s official opening on July 16, 2004, this four-day celebration will include activities for families and youth, workouts, new public art, dance performances, and concerts featuring headliners to be announced.

This program is presented by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) with the Grant Park Music Festival and others and made possible through the generous support of the Millennium Park Foundation and others.
