SHORT ARTIST BIOS:

Damiana (Chicago)

Natalie Chami (TALsounds) and Whitney Johnson (Matchess) perform as a duo under the name Damiana. Both artists have built their own catalogs as multi-instrumentalist improvisers and composers in the Chicago experimental music scene, exploring the intersections between ambient, electro-acoustic improv, and more legible songcraft based around their voices and their work with synths and electronics -- all filtered through their backgrounds in classical performance and education.

Kill Alters (New York)

The dense compositions of Kill Alters crash into you as a glorious mess of hyperactive vocal lines, pulsing electronic textures, and interwoven percussion patterns. Bonnie Baxter jumps at center stage with mic in hand, screeching, chanting, crooning, and otherwise pouring out her soul. As her wildly diverse vocal performances flit between moods and styles on a dime, she commands a choir of alternate personalities waiting to overtake each other for turns in the spotlight. Nicos Kennedy drapes layers of squalling synth texture and disfigured noise into the mix from a hybrid arsenal of analog and digital machines, assuming the role of the wild card as much as the meticulous producer.

Long Distance Poison (New York)

Long Distance Poison is the NY-based ambient/drone synth duo of Nathan Cearley and Erica Bradbury. The duo has spent the last decade exploring the corners of extended, transportive synth sessions sculpted from Cearley’s modular systems and Bradbury’s keyboards and analog gear. The textures on display range from smeared synthetic washes to crunched, distorted tones, to segments of glistening arpeggios that inch closer to the precedent of Berlin School synthesis. Tonight's performance will prominently feature a live hydrophone field recording from a stream beside their upstate-NY home.

Grey McMurray / M. Geddes Gengras / Greg Fox Trio (New York)

A sort of NY HausMo Power Trio featuring synthesist M. Geddes Gengras, alongside Grey McMurray and Greg Fox - one half of the quartet Body Meta (whose debut release The Work Is Slow comes out on May 28th (the exact date of this show)). A fixture of the intertwined experimental scenes of New York City, Grey McMurray has worked with a wide array of artists including Colin Stetson, Ali Sethi, Alarm Will Sound, John Cale, and Sō Percussion. M. Geddes Gengras has released an enormous catalog of wide-ranging, synth-focused music in both solo and collaborative settings, including two recent HausMo albums that focus on sprawling, topographic instrumentals. To list the projects that drummer Greg Fox has been a part of, both behind a drum kit and performing with synths and electronics, would require its own rundown beyond the scope of this compact bio.
