Sam and Melissa discuss the dynamics of cultural production in Slovakia with Bratislava based curator Juraj Hoppan, Robert Repka of Liptovsky Mikulas based Diera do Sveta, and Zuzana Kotikova of the gallery KAIR in Kosice.

Juraj Hoppan is a promoter and cultural worker based in Bratislava, Slovakia. He is one of the founders of the label Proto Sites. As a performance curator at the digital arts-focused Sensorium Festival, he explores intersections of interdisciplinary art and experimental music, interdependence, non-human music, and new sonic futurism in site-specific contexts. Past guests include Lanark Artefax, Saša Spačal, Music For Your Plants, etc. As co-curator of the NEXT Festival, his focus lies on the diversity of global club production presenting anything from ambient gabber (Nkisi), to hazy-hypnotic technoids (Rezzett), from future sounds of batida (DJ Nervoso) to deconstructed deconstructions (AYA), etc.

Robert Repka is a curator at cultural centre Diera do sveta (literally Hole in the world), based in Liptovsky Mikulas, Slovakia. He graduated from Cultural anthropology and Ethnology at Uppsala University, Sweden and Public Policy in Bratislava, Slovakia. He is dedicated to finding means of engaging communities and networks in disrupting and finding an alternative to contemporary economic, political, cultural, ecological and epistemological organisations.

Zuzana Kotiková is the manager of Košice Artist in Residence, an international residency program in Košice, Slovakia. At the beginning of 2013, when Košice was awarded the European Capital of Culture she got the opportunity to join the Košice 2013 team and work at the residency program. After the European Capital of Culture year, the NGO Košice 2013 transformed into Creative Industry Košice, an organization, where KAIR had stable ground to develop the international activities and network of partners. In 2016, KAIR became an independent association founded by Zuzana and Petra Housková. Zuzana holds a degree from Charles University, Prague in the field of humanities. Currently, she also works with Creative Industry Košice as a senior manager for international projects.
