Mottel_Mottel; The Image is a Seed
This online broadcast is a public forum to present aspects of the Syeus Mottel photographic archive. His son, Matt Mottel, transforms a yet unexamined cultural history into a social and artistic happenin through a collaborative process. Matt has invited those connected to both his and his father’s cultural networks to participate and respond to this presentation; intertwining their own histories and performance practice into a new archive.

About the Artists
Bonnie Kane
Dedicated improvisor and electro acoustic pioneer, Bonnie Kane’s music lives equally in the experimental, harsh noise, and psychedelic rock arenas.
Integrating saxophone, flute, feedback and electronics, her work travels through genres of ambient, noise, free jazz and improv, psych rock, jam band, and bio-composition, manipulating sound into magic.

Corey Fogel
Corey Fogel (b. 1977) is a drummer and artist living in Los Angeles, CA. His practice is based in momentary encounters between music and objects, textiles, foods, and other collaborators. Fogel engages the viewer to consider sound as a medium on par with paint and cellulose, a constant in our daily lives. www.coreyfogel.com
Drummer Gerald Cleaver, born and raised in Detroit, is a product of the city’s rich music tradition. Inspired by his father, drummer John Cleaver, he began playing the drums at an early age, gaining early invaluable experience with Detroit jazz masters Ali Muhammad Jackson, Lamont Hamilton, Earl Van Riper, and Pancho Hagood. He moved to New York in 2002, and he has toured and/or recorded with Henry Threadgill, Roscoe Mitchell, Lotte Anker, Matt Shipp, William Parker, Craig Taborn, among others.
Jean Carla Rodea (b in Mexico City) is a research-based interdisciplinary artist and educator currently living in Brooklyn, NY. Her work involves a variety of disciplines and mediums such as music, sound, poetry, vocal performance and performance art, photography, video, movement, and sculpture. Her artistic practice deals with spaces and instances where problematic socio-political and cultural constructs are rendered visible through multimedia installations and performance. As a musician, Jean Carla is dedicated to perform and compose a plethora of music/sound in a variety of settings – from solo to large ensembles. https://www.jeancarlarodea.com/
Matt Mottel, artist and organizer
Matt Mottel (born 1981, New York, NY) is an artist, performer and writer who enlivens primary source materials and creates collaborative artworks that amplify knowledge and provide access to subterranean culture. Social activism and cultural community are threads that run throughout Mottel’s extensive body of performances, videos, sculptures and music.
