At the tail end of this month, Brooklyn fanzine, record club, and events group Valley Of Freaks comes out of retirement for a virtual salon featuring an eclectic mix of artists forging their own paths in the electronic music landscape. Blistering dark ambient, euphoric downtempo collages, spiraling breakbeat, and more, ‘Repulse’ aims to be an enveloping force to close your eyes and open your mind, to beat back the year, to dissipate and dissolve into the new.

Artist Line-up:

6pm CT - Adrian Rew
6:45pm - Isn’t Ours
7:15pm - vhvl
7:45pm - pent
8:15pm - hind leg

About the Artists

Adrian Rew

Multi instrumentalist, composer, curator, and DJ, Adrian Rew has donned many hats, whether helming the label Ergot Records, performing in Home Blitz and as Tone Burst, or DJing his weekly spot on The Lot Radio. Rew’s series Slot Machine Music explores field recordings at several different casinos across the United States, creating an effect that is “euphoric, psychedelic... an ecstatic noise symphony.” Rew will bring out some of his finest records to set the mood beginning at 7pm ET (6pm CT).

Isn’t Ours

Part housewarming serenade, part psychedelic hex, Mike Sheffield will construct an echo-filled derge as his Isn’t Ours moniker. Part site specific audio collage, part DJ set, Sheffield’s 7:45pm ET (6:45pm CT) set will feature material from his fifteen.pm release “Laurel Leaves” as well as newer sounds, reimagined through a divergent, cascading lens.

vhvl

One of the best surprises of 2020 was the sudden release of “garbage” by vhvl. An audio diary, the record reads impressionistic and pure, a stunning b-side collection from a virtuosic soundscape summoner. Downtempo meets ambient, New York City night air meets musique concrète, vhvl is sure to surprise at 8:15pm ET (7:15pm CT).

pent

Complete original beautiful tentacles, pent has truly been on a tear this past year, with a slew of brilliant mixes (including their recent for 𝕵𝖚𝖆𝖓𝖎𝖙𝖆'𝖘) and a string of EPs. It brings me nothing but extreme joy to welcome their very specific brand of forward-thinking experimental dub harsh ambient during their 8:45pm ET (7:45 CT) set time.

hind leg

Rounding out the evening we have a very special set from hind leg. A newer duo formed out of the prolific and consistent jamming of Mike and Nick, hind leg is the culmination of years of collaboration and it shows. Their pad-drenched rhythms on Bandcamp and for Fokus Global land somewhere between glistening hyperpop drum & bass, and leftfield house, catch it before it lands, as they close out the night starting at 9:15pm ET (8:15pm CT).
