7:00PM CT / 8:00PM EST - Adam Mirza & Akiva Zamcheck: Fake Radio Lab
Emory University's CompFest 2021: Co-Authorship in Electro-Acoustic Music kicks off tonight with a performance by Adam Mirza and Akiva Zamcheck. Fake Radiolab is the name of an ongoing performance project in which Mirza and Zamcheck irreverently adopt the mannerisms of various radiophonic personalities and media genres (i.e. YouTube rants, ASMR sessions, self-help narrations, dream sequences, radio plays, podcasts, nature documentaries, etc) to playfully-seriously jar the (supposed) clarity and authority imparted to “content” by contemporary audio production. Acting as (unreliable) hosts of a live podcast, we present a kind of musicalized speech performance that juxtaposes (distorts) multiple modes of audio narration, along with (our) musical performances of processed vocals, live synth, violin and sampled audio fragments.
CompFest 2021: Co-Authorship in Electro-Acoustic Music is co-produced by the Emory University Music Department and Experimental Sound Studio.
