OSCILLATIONS: Diego Espinosa

Diego Espinosa Cruz González is a multi-percussionist/sound artist dedicated to expanding the boundaries of contemporary performance practice through sound exploration. His works and experimentations as a soloist with a wide range of visual artists, music technologists and theatrical/physical percussion repertoire has led him to develop a personal voice focusing a great deal of energy on projects wherein the visual component of a composition is as important or even equal partner to the music. Espinosa is en extremely versatile artist, who has performed in all five continents collaborating with artists like Pierre Boulez, John Zorn, Steve Reich, John Luther Adams, Kajia Saariaho, Frederic Rzewski, Alvin Currant, David Toop, Tarek Atoui, Steven Shick, Peter Eötvös, William Winant, Matmos, James Wood, Asko-Schoenberg Ensemble, Nieuw Ensemble, Ives Ensemble, Synergy Singers, ChampdAction, etc.…

Espinosa founded The Electronic Hammer computer-percussion trio and Ear Massage percussion quartet. He was a steady member of cutting edge Dutch ensembles Slagwerk Den Haag, Atlas Ensemble, Ziggurat Ensemble, SOIL, and Amsterdam Percussion Group.

As a soloist he has appeared with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales at the Royal Albert Hall as part of the BBC PROMS, with Netherlands Kamer Orkest at the Muziekgebouw Amsterdam, New Ensemble (Concertgebouw-Amsterdam, Phillips Zaal-Eindhoven), Insomnio Ensemble (Tivoli-Utrecht, RadioFunk- Cologne), Atlas Ensemble, Honk Kong Chinese Orchestra, Pamplona Orchestra, Koninklijke Concervatorium Orkest (The Hague), The MDR Chior (Peters Kirsche-Leipzig) and Limburgs Orchestra (playing for Dutch Queen Beatrix), with conductors such as Lukas Vis, Ed. Spanjaard, Emilio Pomarico, Jac van Steen, Jurgen Hempel, Micha Hammel, Martin Neary, Kenneth Montgomery, Juan Trigos, James Wood, and Ulrich Pöhl.
