SUMMERSONIC: Chandeliers, Bastardgeist

Putting a danceable twist on art rock, Krautrock, and avant-garde influences, Chandeliers' kaleidoscopic electronic jams are both experimental and accessible. The group began making electronic music in 2004, and released their first recording, the Circulation single, two years later, followed by the albums The Thrush, Dirty Moves, and Roulé (a split with like-minded Chicagoans Mahjongg). Their most recent effort, Founding Fathers, was released in summer 2012 on Captcha Records.

Bastardgeist is the ambient pop confection of songwriter Joel Midden. The lush music is rooted in Midden’s virtuosic kalimba playing and ethereal falsetto, and fleshed out by samples, synths, strings, and both electronic and live drums. His sophomore album, Infinite Lives, was released digitally earlier this summer, and will be available later this year as a 12” LP put out by UK label Brainlove Records. This SummerSonic performance is the offical release show for the LP.
