The 2025 Spain/Chicago Exchange Artists-in-Residence will be announced early summer 2025. Past artists include Hara Alonso, Ginebra Raventós, Paul Hertz, Veronica Anne Salinas, Clara de Asís, Maria Gaspar, and Juanjo Palacios.

The Spain/Chicago Artist Exchange is a collaboration between ESS in Chicago and the Cultural Office of the Embassy of Spain to connect sound artists working in each respective location. Two exchange artists participate in a series of self-directed virtual studio visits over the course of a two month period, followed by a 10-day in-person residency in Chicago each fall.

An open call for the Spanish artist-in-residence is distributed each spring and selected by leadership at each partner organization. The Chicago partner artist is selected by ESS from a limited call, with the intention of pairing complementary practices – if you are a Chicago artist interested in being paired with a Spanish artist in the future, please submit your website and any other information about your current practice here and we will consider your proposal during the next residency period.
